White Cedar Farm, LLC began with chickens in 2007 and goats in 2009. We have owned a number of different breeds of each. While for years the chickens and goats were a hobby, we became incorporated as an LLC in 2012. We were approached by a co-op looking for goat milk and thus it began. We bought several Saanen does and their Saanen/Boer offspring as a package deal and have expanded since then. We currently own 12 goats and 1 sheep and an unknown number of chickens. We also own 2 horses that we board at nearby Lazy A Ranch in Prescott, MI.

While our stead is small at just over 5 acres, it is adequate for goats and poultry. There is a spring-fed pond and natural springs in addition to mixed forest: ash, oak, maple, poplar, elderberry, barberry, balsam fir, white pine, eastern hemlock, apple and the northern white cedar (Thuja occidentalis) is most common. We chose the name White Cedar Farm for several reasons. First is how common the tree is here. It is also a hardy tree, able to grow in many soil types, especially swampy areas. Also, the flat leaves are rich in vitamin C. The Europeans called it the "tree of life" because a tea brewed from the leaves cured the scurvy of a French voyage to North America in the 16th century. The ornamental white cedar retains the Latin version: arbor vitae, tree of life.

In addition to taking care of our creatures, we enjoy horseback riding, science-fiction and fantasy movies and books, exploring alternative energy options (we have a wind turbine and a few solar panels), fiber crafts. travel within Michigan, showing our goats and horses and spending time with friends and family. Thank you again for visiting our site.
