WHITE CEDAR FARM, LLC
HERD SHARES
A loophole in Michigan laws allows people to consume milk from their own animals. Since not everyone has the means or facility to have their own milk animal, customers can purchase a share of one of our does and pay a "boarding fee". A single share entitles the part-owner to one gallon per week. $20 is the initial purchase fee. Boarding fee is $6 per week if the owner provides their own container. $7 per week fo White Cedar Farm to provide one. This is for farm pick-up ONLY. My Family Co-op customers, please see Jenny for pricing (her price includes container, pickup and delivery fees)
Goat Meat
Why eat goat meat? 90% of the world's population consumes goat meat on a regular basis. Cattle require large amounts of acreage and water and in many places in the world, goats are easier and more economical to raise for meat. From Pacific Islands to high mountains, desert scrubland and tropical forests, goats can be raised virtually anywhere. Goat meat is naturally low in fat (the fat is separate from the flesh unlike the marbled cuts found in beef and lamb) and tastes like a mix of beef and venison. Goat meat can be substituted for venison in recipes. We usually eat it in pasta dishes or chili. FARM PRICE $5/lb wrapped plus processing fee. Processing runs $30-45 depending on size of goat. Must purchase whole goat. A whole goat will yield 20-70 pounds of meat depending on size and breed. Most of our meat goats are Boer x Dairy crosses and amount to 25-35 pounds of meat on average. Please contact us for kosher or halal meat if you require it.
Stud Service
We have several bucks that we breed to outside does. None of our bucks are registered, as most of our bucks come to us as meat goats. However, a few have stood out for their coloring, conformation and/or personality and so therefore have survived our culls. Stud fee is $10 and $2/night boarding fee. Boarding fee will be waived if doe owner provides feed.
MORADO: 2 yr old 3/4 Boer x LaMancha. Very typy Boer conformation and his LaMancha granddam milked 5 qts a day. Unusual purple-brown coloring instead of the usual red. Friendly and easily handled, excellent feet.
IBEX: 2 yr old Alpine. Black with white star. We got im with the intention of eating him from some people who begged us to take him because they couldn't handle him. Once we brought him home, we found out that he was just lonely for other goats. He is the quietest and friendliest goat that we own, and in spite of uneducated care in his early years, has proven tough and adaptable.
NAME PENDING: 1 yr old Alpine x Boer cross. Tri-color son of Paintball, a Fullblood Boer buck and senior sire at Two Willows Meat Goat Farm in Lupton, MI. Dam is a lovely and prolific chamoisee Alpine with many fair ribbons to her name. Will be available for stud fall 2014
